LGBTQ+ Western prepares for its 32nd Annual Drag Show

[BELLINGHAM, WASHINGTON] — Western Washington University is hosting its 32nd Annual Drag Show on April 20. Western’s annual drag show is the longest running university drag show in Washington and organized by LGBTQ+ Western, a program under The Centers for Student Access, Community, and Intercultural Engagement at Western.

The theme for this year's show is “Smoke & Mirrors: The Magic of Drag.” With each performance, the drag show coordinating team asked the cast to answer the question “what makes your drag magical?”

“I create characters and concepts that inspire, uplift and empower community,” said Dizzy Phoria, local drag artist and one of the cast members. “I make a lot of my costumes from elevating scrap to show that even if you don’t come from money, you can make something special.”

The 32nd Annual Drag Show will feature both student and local drag artists. The cast will also include Seattle drag artist, Issa Man. The coordinating team said they considered multiple factors when choosing the cast.

“When choosing our cast, we looked for artists who not only put on an entertaining performance, but also reflect and uplift their communities,” Drag Show Co-Coordinator Mars said. “The diverse styles and artistic dedication exhibited from the cast will ensure this show has something for everybody.”

LGBTQ+ Western’s 32nd Annual Drag Show will take place in the Performing Arts Center’s Concert Hall on Western’s campus. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the show will start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the show can be purchased at Western’s Performing Arts Center box office. The show is an all-ages event, but performances may contain sexual themes and explicit language.
