LGBTQ+ Veteran Support
If you are an LGBTQ+ Veteran or a dependent of an veteran and would like support navigating the intersections of Veteran/dependent and LGBTQ+ identity, we are here to help!
These are primary options for support for students:
- Meet with LGBTQ+ Director, JoeHahn (He/They). Viking Union 755. 360-650-7583. Schedule a Meeting Here. Email JoeHahn
JoeHahn can be a helpful first step towards connecting with the other resources listed here. While JoeHahn did not serve in the military, they come from a military family and understand the various reasons someone may have joined the Armed Forces and the unique challenges LGBTQ+ service members have faced such as Don't Ask, Don't Tell, trans-military bands, and other legislation. JoeHahn stays up-to-date on LGBTQ+ Veteran training.
- Meet with Western's Veteran Services Office. VSO Website. Viking Commons 525. Email VSO. Email Nick Sanchez. (360) 650-7410
Nick Sanchez, Manuel York, and Tyler Reed are the professional staff at Western's Veteran Services Office. They can provide comprehensive support around Veteran and Dependent benefits, financial aid, trainings, etc. Including support navigating state and national offices.
- Connect with WA's LGBTQ+ Veterans Outreach Coordinator, Robin Lang (she/her) Email Robin Lang. LGBTQ+ Veteran Website.
- Washington has a dedicated staff member, Robin Lang, who can provide support for LGBTQ+ veterans and dependents on a variety of needs. This can include upgrading discharge status, connecting with other LGBTQ+ veterans, and ensuring LGBTQ+ veterans and dependents have equitable access to resources, benefits, and holistic support.
Health care:
Below are some resources regarding LGBTQ+ Veteran Healthcare. We recommending connecting with your primary care doctor's office for more specific support, and we can help you navigate that process if you having issues.
