Celebrating and empowering Black queerness and queer Blackness.
Kicking off in Fall 2020, the Black LGBTQ+ Thriving Collective exists to advance the holistic wellness and academic success of Black LGBTQ+ Western students. We do this by:
Fostering social connection among peers
Providing leadership development opportunities, including through programming
Mentoring and connecting students with resources across the university, and
Maintaining a regular line of communication with the LGBTQ+ Director as they work across the university to advance support for Black LGBTQ+ students
The Black LGBTQ+ Thriving Collective is a collaboration between LGBTQ+ Western and the Ethnic Student Center. We meet the first and third Wednesday of the month at 5pm. Our first gathering will be on October 7 and our second gathering will be on October 21. Join us; we are excited to connect with you!
During the COVID-19 pandemic, our gatherings will take place via Zoom. To get the Zoom link, please self-enroll in the Black LGBTQ+ Thriving Collective Canvas course at https://wwu.instructure.com/enroll/MCPTAH. We’ll also use this Canvas page to connect and share resources as we move forward.
If you have questions, or to request disability accommodations, please contact Langley, the LGBTQ+ Director, at LGBTQ@wwu.edu.
